This Week’s Topic: Top 10 Series I’ve Been Meaning to Start but Haven’t
Romance Series I Should Have Started By Now(or Continued)
I enjoy a good romance series because it allows me to really get to know a group of characters while I follow their adventures through several books. And the romance genre is filled with so many series it can become overwhelming trying to choose, and then keep up with, reading an entire series. The list I have compiled could have been two or three times as long but these 10 series hold the most interest for me, even though I know I will likely never start a couple of them because the commitment is to much and I doubt I have enough life left to complete them. I’m looking at you J.D. Robb – I mean seriously, 45 books in your series and you keep adding them? Anyway, I will add all of these to my lifetime TBR and we’ll just have to see what happens.
The Hacker Series – Meredith Wild
Books in the Series: Hardwired / Hardpressed/ Hardline/ Hard Limit / Hard Love
I have mentioned on the blog before how much I want to see hacker heroines and heroes in romance novels and Meredith Wild’s series makes an excellent addition to this cause. The series follows one relationship across five books which really allows the reader to know the characters, their world, and their love story. I really need to give this one a try soon and see if it lives up to the excitement I feel for the premise.
The Off-Campus Series – Elle Kennedy
Books in the Series: The Deal / The Mistake / The Score / The Goal
How I have managed to miss starting this series is a mystery when it contains so many things I like: sexy, cocky hockey players/ smart, sassy, and sexy women /witty dialogue/ and adorable happily-ever-afters. Definitely getting bumped up my TBR list.
Night Huntress Series – Jeaniene Frost
Books in the Series: Halfway to the Grave / One Foot in the Grave / At Grave’s End
The first book in this series recently landed on my Kindle in audiobook form and I am looking so forward to starting the series. Though I read very little paranormal romance, something about the character of Catherine “Cat” Crawford made this series stand out. Half-vampire / half-human, Cat becomes a kick-ass demon hunter after meeting and being recruited by Bones (the best hero name ever!). The first three books in the original series follow Cat and Bones and their on-again/off-again love story. So. Much. Awesome.
The Weekday Brides Series – Catherine Bybee
Books in the Series: Wife by Wednesday / Married by Monday /Fiance by Friday / Single by Saturday /
Taken by Tuesday / Seduced by Sunday / Treasured by Thursday
This series sounds like so much fun to read and I love the basic premise of watching two people forced into a marriage of convenience by circumstances both in and out of their control, fall in love while traversing the twist and turns of life with some edge-of-your-seat drama thrown in for fun. Perfect summer reads!
Morgans of Nashville Series – Mary Burton
Books in the Series: Cover Your Eyes / Be Afraid / I’ll Never Let You Go / Vulnerable
Thrills, chills, and enough romance to keep the characters real and intriguing, this series sounds like the perfect fit for me. I already have the first book on hold with my library and can’t wait for it to be available.
Heartbreaker Bay Series – Jill Shalvis
Books in the Series: Sweet Little Lies / The Trouble with Mistletoe / Accidentally on Purpose
Through some randomness in my book selection process recently, I actually read the third book of this series and really liked it. It was fun, witty, lots of pretty good side characters, snappy dialogue, and some pretty hot sex scenes. I will definitely be trying the other two books in the series.
In Death Series – J.D. Robb
Books in Series: Too Many to Name. First Book>Naked in Death. Most Recent Book> Secrets in Death (Releases 9/17)
Okay, like I mentioned in the intro, this series has 45 books and counting . Holy cats! And though I know I will never start the series – committing to reading 45 books is far too overwhelming – I still felt the need to include it on this list because I am still disappointed in myself for not beginning the series back in 1995 when it began. Eve Dallas and Rourke are practically royalty in the romance genre and I can’t wait to see how far J.D. Robb takes the series – even if I’m not reading it.
A Miss Fortune Mystery Series – Jana Deleon
Books in Series: Louisiana Longshot / Lethal Bayou Beauty / Swamp Sniper / Swamp Team 3 / Gator Bait /
Soldier of Fortune / Fortune Hunter / Later Gator / Hook, Line, and Blinker
So this is another series that veers a bit from my normal romance reading but I was hooked after I read the first book. Funny, eccentric, charming and with a good dose of Southern wit, the series stars CIA assassin Fortune Redding and her crazy life in the quirky town of Sinful, Louisiana. Mystery, romance, and enough cooky side characters to keep each story interesting, the series feels perfect for anyone looking for a good time. And these have some of the best title and covers in romance, I think. I can’t wait to take my next trip to the Bayou.
Outlander Series – Diana Gabaldon
Books in Series: Outlander / Dragonfly in Amber / Voyager / Drums of Autumn / The Fiery Cross /
A Breath of Snow and Ashes / An Echo in the Bone / Written in Your Own Heart’s Blood
Much like with the Robb series, deep down I know I will likely never pick up these books but I would feel remiss in not including them on this list because the series brings us one of the great love stories of all time. The love and adventure shared between 18th Century Scottish Highland warrior Jamie Frasier and Claire Randall, a former World War II combat nurse living in 1945 Scotland with her husband. Two lives, two men, a whole lot of adventure, passion, and love is the basis for this series and it has always intrigued me. Maybe if I can’t read the books, I’ll someday at least have a chance to watch the television series created for it.
Slammed Series – Colleen Hoover
Books in Series: Slammed / Point of Retreat / This Girl
A super popular author in the young adult/new adult genre, Colleen Hoover popped onto my radar when I heard about the first book in this series, Slammed, when I found out the main female character wrote and performed slam poetry, which I adore. This series follows the love story of Layken and Will and has so many wonderful things going for it. Young love is so messy and complicated, and breathtaking, and beautiful, and important to the romance genre. I mean, is there really anything like the experience of our first love? I can’t wait to get through the first two books because book 3 is written from Will’s point of view – his take on the relationship and love story – and I think that would be a fun spin on the classic narrative.
I would be excited to read any of these series but I think I will spend most of my energy finishing the Heartbreaker Bay series, the Night Huntress series, and trying another book in the A Miss Fortune Mystery series. So many books – so little time but oh what a great time it will be.
Have you read any of these series?
Which one looks the most fun to you?
